One could argue that beauty rituals are, in their own way, essential in that they serve as a form of much-needed, soothing self-care during stressful times like these. Perhaps that’s why, when you go on the occasional run to the grocery store or pharmacy, you might feel a bit of longing as you walk or drive past your local Ulta Beauty, which has been closed since March 19. But now, you have the option of ordering your favorite products and, instead of waiting for them to ship, going to that Ulta Beauty store for a safe and convenient curbside pickup.
The beauty-store chain quietly announced its new curbside pickup option last week, while conversations about when businesses will reopen and how gained ever-growing steam. And while different state and local governments are taking different approaches as to which kinds of businesses can reopen and to what capacity, Ulta Beauty has found a way to operate its brick-and-mortar stores much like so many restaurants have been doing: with take-out orders.
“I am excited to share we have confidently begun Curbside Pickup in select stores where we have determined it is safe to do so,” reads a statement by Ulta Beauty CEO Mary Dillon. “The Curbside Pickup offering is an extension of our already popular Buy Online Pickup in Store service, so guests who have used that service will find the process familiar. This new, convenient option is meant to deliver beauty essentials as easily and safely as possible in these markets right now.”
The statement goes onto say that more than 350 stores were carefully selected based on a thorough evaluation of local market conditions and guidance from local and state authorities. “We look forward to expanding this service to additional stores in the coming weeks,” Dillon says. “To do this right, we have and will continue to implement robust health and safety protocols with our local store associates to ensure all orders are handled following CDC guidelines, limiting contact between our guests and teams.”
According to an FAQ section, you simply drive up to the entrance (there are no designated spots), call the number in the confirmation email you’ll receive after ordering, and someone will bring your products to your car — there’s no minimum purchase amount. You’re not expected to tip, especially considering the efforts to minimize contact.
Ulta Beauty has even come up with a return plan for curbside-pickup orders. “When stores fully reopen, we’ll be happy to help with your curbside pickup returns then,” the site reads. “If you want to process your return before stores reopen, you can mail it to our returns center.”
You can get more information about curbside pickup and find the list of stores where it’s available — currently in 38 states — right here.
