Nike Master trainer and New Zealand expat Kirsty Godso has teamed up with Stylerunner for her second exclusive activewear collection. And this all-black lineup means business.
Kirsty Godso does not muck around. The Nike Master Trainer is as fierce in the gym as she is outside of it. If you’ve ever done her signature ‘hot sauce’ burpee move on the Nike Training Club app, you’ll know what I mean. The Kiwi-born personal trainer has been keeping busy while isolating in New York City not only by posting some epic ‘Corona Care’ workouts to her Instagram, but she’s also been working on an activewear collaboration with Stylerunner.
The three-piece Pyrogirls x Stylerunner capsule collection is actually her second foray into the world of design with the Australian retailer, with her first collection launching in 2018 and selling out within minutes. Launching last week, the lineup is a lesson in less-is-more when it comes to activewear: a laser focus of cut, fit and performance, in a no-nonsense monochrome colour palette. Much like Godso’s training techniques, you could say.
Of the guiding vision for the range, Godso says “A lot of the time we put on activewear that doesn’t fit us well and it immediately derails our confidence before we even get to our workouts. That’s something I’m looking to remove with any pieces that Pyrogirls put out, but also infusing some energy and attitude in our gear so you’re literally wearing confidence at all times.”
We asked the Nike Master Trainer a few quick questions about her latest project:
What was non-negotiable to include in this range?
“A hoodie! I love hoodies, more so than anything else! The Highly Flammable hoodie and NO SMOKING PLEASE statement on the back is our signature Pyrogirls tagline, but also a call to action. Highly Flammable means you are out there, giving life everything. You should be such a force that it lights up everyone else around you. Our hoodie is so soft and perfectly oversized.
Cut is really important to me with hoodies. The entire collection is black, so it acts as staple wardrobe pieces that you can build on easily with the rest of the collection or other items.”
What’s your favourite piece?
“I love the long sleeve crop! It’s such a versatile piece that can be worn year-round. It’s the perfect cut in terms of length of the body and arms, but also the perfect amount of bagginess so you have room to move but aren’t drowning while trying to workout!”
What’s your activewear pet-peeve?
“Shorts that you have to keep pulling down after every burpee! I love the short from our collab because I think it’s the perfect length in terms of style, confidence and performance.”
The collection ranges from $99 for the long sleeve tee and bike shorts to $159 for the hoodie, and is available online now at Stylerunner. If past performance is anything to go by, we have a feeling this range will sprint out the door.
