In the world of fashion designer leggings are officially back

Taking inspiration from Pernille Teisbaek, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Leandra Medine, we offer a masterclass in how to style the ‘leggings-as-pants’ look, for WFH and beyond.

If there were ever a convincing case against the ‘I only dress for myself!’ school of thought, it would be self-isolation. Maybe you’re popping on a blazer or a nice pair of earrings for your daily Zoom conferences but south of the waist? It’s comfort all the way, baby. Our guess is that your trusty rotation of leggings – once the sole remit of workouts and Sunday morning coffee runs – are getting a pretty good thrashing right about now. On that front, we have some rather excellent news.

In a serendipitous turn, leggings are now back in style – embraced by the powers that be of the high fashion world (Chanel’s logo-ed creations were a street style hit at fashion week, and YSL showed them on the runway) just as the world began going into lockdown. Celebrities and influencers are in on the action – everyone from supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to Instagram style mavens Leandra Medine and Pernille Teisbaek have been spotted sporting leggings while working from home.

Which means, basically, that you now officially have an excuse to invest in another pair. Here, we’ve collated six fashion-forward styles, with accompanying muses to channel. Wear them for the rest of #WFH, of course, but then keep on rocking them once the lockdown ends. Black leggings with an oversized shirt and heels to work? Why not! Patterned tights with an oversized sweater and boots for winter weekends? Embrace it! Consider this a signed permission slip to begin wearing leggings all year around – you can thank us later.
